Fine Mat™️ A3

Fine Mat™️ A3 is an anti-glare surface treatment for cover glass used on displays. This solution can be used on both acrylic and polycarbonate filters, including EMI-shielded cover glass solutions.

Fine Mat™️ is specifically developed to produce an exclusive-looking matte surface that dramatically reduces glare and still has excellent optical performance. This is because the cover glass retains its light transmission despite the anti-glare surface treatment, depending on which base material it is applied on.

The coating process creates a unique surface structure consisting of lens-shaped microparticles. This structure scatters light and significantly reduces glare. Despite its anti-glare properties, haze is still low, and light emitted from the display doesn’t get blurred, meaning it retains its image quality. Therefore, disturbing glare is significantly reduced with no loss in image quality from the underlying display.

Application Areas

Fine Mat™ A3 can be used in various display applications requiring glare reduction. Filters used in conditions with a lot of direct light, such as sunlight or overhead light sources indoors, can benefit from anti-glare surface treatments to improve the readability of the display.

It is worth noting that A1 is the finest anti-glare solution compared to the other Fine Mat™ options ranging from A1 to A5 – the latter being the most matte solution.

Variations of Fine Mat

The gloss level of our Fine Mat™️ solutions can be adjusted. A1 is our Anti-Newton grade solution, whereas A3 is suitable for high-resolution displays. A5, which is the most matte solution, is what we usually recommend for digital signage applications. We also have Fine Mat™️ A2 and A4, which naturally fall in between these options. Therefore, we are able to customize the anti-glare solution to exactly match the requirements of your display.

General processing guidelines

This material can be cut and milled using high-speed routers and cutters suited for machining PMMA and other plastics.

Fine Mat coatings can be laser cut, and cutting parameters must be adjusted to give the best performance for the selected substrate.

Fine Mat can, if allowed by the substrate, be thermoformed and cold-bent.

* Typical values measured on production series materials.
** Final surface robustness is somewhat dependent on substrate thickness and type (ability to “support” the coating).
Protective film must be removed from the surface at least 48 hours for mechanical properties to recover. Measurement of pencil hardness directly on available A-grades is not possible, because layer thickness and structure don’t allow for this test directly.
