INIT is a leading supplier of IT solutions for public transport. The company has since 1983 contributed to sustainable mobility with its digital solutions, and more than 1,100 transport providers worldwide rely on INIT’s hard- and software solutions.

We are proud to contribute to many of INIT’s solutions – one of these solutions being the PROXmobile3, a payment acceptance device for public transport.

INIT’s PROXmobile3 was initially designed as a passenger terminal for use in the vehicles themselves. These devices feature a piece of glass in front of the display, which it still does today.

However, INIT experienced problems with devices that needed to be installed outdoors on platforms. These units tended to break because of their glass surface because the glass was easily shattered because of vandalism.

Therefore, INIT’s challenge was to find a display window for units meant to be installed outdoors that had the endurance to be installed in this environment.

Working closely with PSC, INIT decided to go with transparent F2000, which is a polycarbonate solution. The disadvantage of the previous glass solution was that the display window was vulnerable to vandalism. By using a polycarbonate solution instead, both the display window and the device itself are now protected from impacts.

Not only does the new solution have excellent impact- and vandal resistance, but F2000 is also a fire- and toxicity-rated polycarbonate, fulfilling all INIT’s demands for the display filter. The fire- and toxicity rating also means the device can be used inside vehicles, not just on passenger terminals.
