Optical Grade Acrylic
Here at PSC, we are experts at manufacturing optical grade acrylic solutions for applications that need a protective front glass for both machine vision devices such as cameras and sensors or human vision-based devices such as electronic displays and HMIs.
High-performance cast acrylic for demanding devices
Our solutions are developed through many years of research and testing, which is why we firmly believe that we are among the best cover glass manufacturers on the market, providing solutions with excellent light transmission, low weight, thickness uniformity, and available processing options.
Customizability
Our cast and extruded options can be coated to obtain unique properties depending on your project’s use case and application. You can choose coatings to obtain features on both sides such as:
- Scratch Resistance
- Chemical Resistance
- Salt Water Resistance
- UV Blocking
- Anti-glare
- Anti-reflection
- … and much more.
Anti-reflective Coatings for maximum performance
Our AR coatings can improve light transmission of relevant wavelengths to over 99% while blocking out all other wavelengths, thereby optimizing the filter’s signal-to-noise ratio.

What is optical grade acrylic?
Optical grade acrylic means that the material has excellent optical and mechanical properties. This means that the material is a great choice when you need a cover glass in front of electronic devices such as displays, cameras or sensors.
Optical grade acrylic in front of displays will not degrade the image quality of the information being displayed.
In front of machine vision devices, the acrylic will ensure that camera or sensor can function properly while being protected from the outside environment.
What are the optical properties of acrylic?
Acrylics offer great light transmission and refractive index, and are great for applications requiring protection along with optical clarity.
What are the two types of acrylic?
There are two main types of acrylic that differ in the way that they are manufactured - cast acrylic and extruded acrylic.
These two methodologies have different strengths and weaknesses, which we cover in this article.
Is acrylic optically clear?
Acrylic is a great choice for protecting electronic devices such as cameras, sensors, and displays while enhancing their optical performance.
PMMA is often the preferred choice over materials such as thin glass, since it weighs approximately half as much as glass, and is significantly more shatter-proof and durable, especially when coated with surface treatments to obtain various features such as scratch resistance.
What is the difference between acrylic and PMMA?
Acrylic and PMMA is the same thing.
PMMA is just the abbreviation for polymethyl methacrylate, which is the scientific name for acrylic.
